GROSS SALARY RANGE KES 50,000 – KES 70,000 per month

DURATION: Maternity leave replacement from October 2026 to January 2027, with the possibility of extension subject to satisfactory performance.

1. Background information
Istituto Pace Sviluppo Innovazione Acli (Institute of Peace Development & Innovation - IPSIA) is an Italian non-governmental organization operating in Kenya since 2015. The organization implements projects aimed at promoting sustainable development, strengthening community resilience towards climate change, and improving livelihoods, through the lens of women empowerment.


2. Role purpose and scope
IPSIA Kenya is seeking a qualified and motivated Accountant to join its team in Nanyuki as maternity leave cover from October 2026 to January 2027. The position may be extended beyond the initial maternity leave period, subject to satisfactory performance and organisational needs.
The Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring financial integrity, precise record-keeping, and the efficient management of organizational resources. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will oversee day-to-day accounting transactions and statutory compliance, with a core focus on exceptional accuracy in cashbook maintenance, transaction recording, and receipts preparation. While designated as an Accountant role, candidates are expected to demonstrate strong, senior-level technical competencies, rigorous attention to detail, and sound financial judgment.

3. Responsibilities and tasks

  • Cashbook and receipt management (core focus): maintain Impeccable accuracy in daily cashbook updating, transaction recording, prompt acquisition of official eTIMS-compliant receipts, and petty cash control.Bank and account reconciliation: conduct timely monthly bank reconciliations, resolve ledger discrepancies, and track cash inflows and outflows.
  • Financial reporting and ledger support: assist the Head of Finance in managing project accounts, posting journal entries, and organizing financial documentation for internal and donor reporting.
  • Statutory compliance and tax filings: ensure full compliance with Kenyan statutory regulations, accurately calculating and remitting KRA tax obligations (PAYE, VAT, Withholding Tax), NSSF, SHIF, and Housing Levy within set deadlines.
  • Procurement and asset management: support procurement procedures following donor guidelines and internal regulations; update and maintain the organizational asset register.
    Filing and internal controls: maintain an organized, transparent electronic and physical filing system to support audit trails and streamline internal control checks.

4. Knowledge, qualifications and experience

  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or Business Administration.
  • CPA Section 4 qualification preferred.
  • At least 4 years of hands-on professional accounting experience (NGO or non-profit sector experience is an added advantage).
  • Exceptional precision and proven accuracy in cashbook updating, receipt preparation, and bank reconciliation.
  • Strong working knowledge of statutory deductions and regulations relevant to NGO operations, with proven ability to ensure full compliance and accurate filing.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Excel and experience using accounting software to track financial activity.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and reliability.
  • Uncompromising ethics, accuracy, and thoroughness in financial reporting and document handling.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Genuine interest in and commitment to international development and community-based initiatives.
