VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT – DRIVER/LOGISTIC ASSISTANT

Position Title: Driver / Logistics Assistant
Duty Station: Nyahururu, Laikipia County, Kenya
Contract Type: National staff position
Starting Date: May 2026
Duration: 12 months, renewable based on performance
Reports to: Project Manager, Project Coordinator, Head of Finance and Head of Mission

Salary Range: 40,000 KES KES/Month Gross

About IPSIA: IPSIA is an Italian non-governmental organization operating in Kenya since 2015. The  organization implements projects aimed at promoting sustainable development, strengthening community resilience towards climate change, and improving livelihoods, through the lens of women empowerment.

We are currently seeking a highly qualified and motivated Driver / Logistics Assistant to support the implementation of an AICS-funded project in Laikipia West, Kenya. The initiative aims to contribute to food and water security for agro-pastoral communities in arid and semi-arid areas (ASAL) of Laikipia West and Laikipia North, in Kenya. Specifically, the project aims to: a) consolidate sustainable practices in agriculture, livestock farming and land management; b) expand access to water sources and optimise their use and management in agriculture, while promoting ecosystem restoration to reduce the risk of natural disasters; c) strengthen climate-resilient value chains and entrepreneurial initiatives.

Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Driver / Logistics Assistant will be responsible for providing safe transportation, supporting logistics operations, assisting in field activities, and managing administrative tasks, including collecting attendance lists, organizing project documents, and ensuring proper record-keeping to ensure smooth project implementation. The role also requires interacting with local communities in a respectful and inclusive manner, ensuring sensitivity to gender dynamics and the needs of vulnerable groups.


Main responsibilities

Driving

  • Provide safe, reliable, and timely transportation for project staff and materials.
  • Support vehicle maintenance, fuel management, and record-keeping.
  • Ensure the cleanliness, proper maintenance, and regular basic checks of the assigned vehicle at all times.
  • Ensure vehicles are in good operational condition and comply with IPSIA safety procedures.
  • Report any vehicle issues or accidents promptly to the Project Coordinator.

 Logistics and field support

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of logistics for project activities, including field visits and events.
  • Ensure that all relevant documents, visibility materials and equipment used in the field are properly handled, organized, and stored before, during, and after activities.
  • Help with the preparation and movement of project materials, including equipment and supplies.
  • Assist in liaising with suppliers, transport providers, and local partners as needed.
  • Support the team in field data collection, community engagement, and other project-related activities as required.
  • Monitor the availability of materials and supplies and inform the team when replenishment is needed

Documentation and administrative support

  • Support the team in administrative tasks, including collecting attendance lists, organizing project documents, and ensuring proper record-keeping for project activities.
  • Ensure proper completion and maintenance of logbooks (e.g., vehicle logbook, fuel tracking).
  • Ensure compliance with IPSIA safeguarding, operational, and reporting procedures.
  • Assist in preparing simple reports or summaries when required by the Project Coordinator.

Requirements

Mandatory Requirements

  • High school Certification (O level or Form 4)
  • Valid Kenyan driving license (Class B, C1, C) and proven driving experience, preferably in rural/remote areas.
  • At least 3 years of experience in driving and logistics support.
  • Ability to interact respectfully and sensitively with local communities, including women, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups, in line with safeguarding principles.
  • Good knowledge of local roads, terrain, and transport regulations in Laikipia County and country wide.
  • Ability to work in remote and challenging environments.
  • Certificate in Basic Computer applications
  • Capacity to assist with manual handling of materials/cars and fieldwork.
  • Basic English & Kiswahili communication skills (reading and writing)
  • Commitment to IPSIA values, including safeguarding and ethical conduct.
  • Flexibility and availability to adapt to changing schedules and operational needs, including extended working hours and field-based activities.

 Desired Requirements

  • Previous experience with NGOs or development projects.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Experience in supporting project logistics, including supply chain or warehouse work.
  • Familiarity with ASAL community contexts and climate-resilient agricultural practices.
